I've seen the Kodak PS810 work where it was tested side by side with another high speed scanner and was amazed at the speed it showed. Of course, you get what you pay for and so this one's kind of expensive. But with it's performance, there's no doubt you'll get you investment back in no time at all. It installs quickly and the software that is provided with it is adequate or you can use your own software easily. If you are planning on scanning mostly text you may want to get a better OCR software product. The scanner does a great job and then it is up to the character recognition software to finish the job.
If you scan a photograph and print on quality paper it it does the job of a photo scanner. Everything I have scanned with this scanner from text to photographs is high quality.
